Altcoinomy vs Mt Pelerin: Two Swiss Crypto Services for Two Different Profiles
Altcoinomy (alt.co) and Mt Pelerin are both Swiss financial intermediaries that convert crypto into fiat under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and both are affiliated with a FINMA-recognised self-regulatory organisation. They are not built for the same client. Mt Pelerin is a retail on-ramp and off-ramp with a self-custodial wallet, a published fee grid, an OTC desk from CHF 100,000 and a network of Swiss private bank partners for large cash-outs. Altcoinomy is a compliance-first intermediary whose core product is the private bank relationship itself: the source-of-funds file, the video identification and the account opening at a Swiss or Monégasque private bank, for transactions from USD 25,000 upwards.

In Short: Which Service Fits Which Profile
Mt Pelerin fits a client who wants to hold crypto in their own wallet, buy and sell in small or medium amounts, and see the fee before clicking. Its OTC desk also handles large cash-outs and can introduce clients to Swiss private banks. Altcoinomy fits a client for whom the bank account is the point: a holder of a significant crypto position who needs a Swiss or Monégasque private bank to accept the funds, keep them and manage them, and who wants the compliance risk carried by a supervised intermediary rather than by the bank's own desk. The two services overlap on large cash-outs and differ on almost everything else.
Two Swiss Financial Intermediaries, Two Different Jobs
Both companies sit in the same legal category. Under Article 2 paragraph 3 of the Swiss Anti-Money Laundering Act, a company that exchanges crypto for fiat on a professional basis is a financial intermediary and must join a self-regulatory organisation recognised by FINMA. Neither is a bank, and neither holds a FINMA banking licence. What the SRO does, and why it matters to a bank receiving the funds, is explained in our article on what a VQF-supervised crypto broker is.
Altcoinomy SA (CHE-209.239.695) was founded in Geneva in 2017, is affiliated with the VQF and is audited by BDO SA. Mt Pelerin Group SA (CHE-188.552.084) has its legal seat in Neuchâtel, offices in Geneva and Neuchâtel, has operated since 2018 and states in its legal notices that it is affiliated with SO-FIT. The distinction that matters for a large holder is not the SRO but the job: Mt Pelerin describes itself as a crypto super-app and a boutique broker, while we carry the compliance file to the bank, a narrower job with a different clientele. Our overview of the three categories of Swiss crypto service providers places the two companies in different tiers for that reason.
Who Each Service Is Built For
Mt Pelerin: from CHF 1 to institutional OTC
Mt Pelerin's exchange starts at CHF 1 for a purchase and CHF 50 for a sale, delivers crypto to any wallet the client controls, and cashes out to a bank account in 18 fiat currencies. Without verification, a user can sell up to CHF 999 worth of crypto per month; verification lifts the ceiling. Above CHF 100,000, the client is directed to the OTC brokerage desk, which documents the origin of funds in-house for miners, traders, founders, investors and airdrop recipients, and can open an account at one of its Swiss private bank partners, which its website says takes less than a month from first contact.
Altcoinomy: from USD 25,000 to the private bank
We do not operate a retail app. Transactions start at USD 25,000, and the OTC range where our execution is most efficient runs from USD 100,000 to USD 5,000,000. Private bank account openings start at USD 1,000,000, which can be seeded in tranches from USD 25,000 over the first months of the relationship. For Monaco, partner banks require in practice EUR 5,000,000 for funds of crypto origin. The reason we hold a minimum at all is explained in our note on why a crypto OTC desk sets a minimum trade size: below it, the compliance work per file costs more than the transaction can bear.
Fees: A Published Grid Versus a Per-Transaction Quote
This is the clearest difference between the two services, and it favours transparency on Mt Pelerin's side. Its pricing page publishes every rate. Ours does not, because each file is quoted after the compliance review, with the review, the wallet screening and the bank introduction included in the quote.
| Fee item (Mt Pelerin figures read on 15 September 2026) | Altcoinomy (alt.co) | Mt Pelerin |
|---|---|---|
| Buying or selling by bank transfer, retail | Not offered | Free for the first CHF 500 per year, then 1.3 % up to CHF 5,000, 1.1 % up to CHF 50,000, 0.9 % up to CHF 1,000,000, 0.7 % up to CHF 10,000,000, 0.6 % above |
| Buying by card | Not offered | 2.5 % up to CHF 500 per year, then 3.8 %, 3.6 % and 3.4 % by volume band, minimum fee CHF 1.20; cap of CHF 5,000 per transaction |
| Crypto-to-crypto swap | Not offered | Free for the first CHF 500 per year, then 0.5 % |
| OTC transaction | Quoted per transaction, from USD 25,000 | 0.9 % from CHF 100,000, 0.7 % from CHF 1,000,000, 0.6 % from CHF 10,000,000, spot price plus fee, no spread |
| Compliance and source-of-funds file | Included in the quote; the initial confidential compliance review is free | Included in the OTC fee |
| Private bank account opening | Included in the mandate | Stated as no extra cost for OTC clients |
| Bank transfer fees | Depends on the receiving bank | SIC and SEPA free; SWIFT fees charged by the banks involved |
A published grid lets a client compute the cost of a sale before contacting anyone. A per-transaction quote prices the actual work in a file, which varies widely between a salaried buyer of Bitcoin in 2016 and a founder with token unlocks across four chains.
Custody and Where the Money Ends Up
Mt Pelerin is self-custodial by design. Its Bridge Wallet holds the keys on the client's device, and the company states that it does not hold, control or access users' crypto-assets or private keys. Fiat leaves the platform to the client's existing bank account, and its personal or corporate crypto IBAN lets a user receive bank transfers converted into crypto and pay bills from an on-chain wallet.
Altcoinomy answers the same question from the other end. The point of the mandate is that fiat arrives at a private bank that has already reviewed the file, in an account opened for that purpose, where the bank can keep the funds under management. Some of our partner private banks offer crypto custody, so a client can hold part of the position in the bank rather than in a cold wallet, a trade-off we set out in cold storage versus a custodian for crypto held with a private bank. From December 2026 we will also offer virtual IBANs for clients who need a lighter transit account without a full private banking relationship.
Onboarding and the Compliance File
What Mt Pelerin asks
- Retail: sign-up in the app or on the web, selling possible without verification up to CHF 999 per month, identity verification beyond that, and extra information on the origin of funds for larger amounts
- OTC: email contact, a KYC or KYB link, identification of the documents that can evidence the source of funds, then transfer instructions; its website says the transaction is typically completed in a matter of days once the file is in place
- Excluded: US persons and residents of a published list of countries; services are not marketed to EU or UK residents
What Altcoinomy asks
- A free confidential compliance review of the wallets and the history before any identity document is shared
- Formal video identification, recorded, with the passport shown, carried out by us and again by the bank, 5 to 10 minutes each; no physical meeting is required in Switzerland
- Evidence of the origin of funds: current and past wallets with a signed message or a satoshi test, read-only exchange API keys, proof of income at the time of the initial purchase, mining invoices, ICO participation or SAFT agreements, each if applicable, as detailed in how to prove crypto source of funds to a private bank
- Compliance intake of 5 to 15 business days, settlement in T+1 to T+3 once the bank has cleared the file
Both intermediaries build the file that a bank's compliance department reads. In our case the file is the basis of a new banking relationship, which is why the bank runs its own identification on top of ours.
Which One Fits You: A Decision Guide
- You want to buy or sell a few thousand francs and keep your own keys: Mt Pelerin, with its free allowance of CHF 500 per year and a rate you can read in advance
- You want a crypto IBAN to receive a salary or pay invoices from a wallet: Mt Pelerin, which offers personal and corporate crypto IBANs today
- You need to cash out CHF 100,000 or more to a bank account you already hold: both services can do it; Mt Pelerin publishes its OTC rate, we quote after the review
- You need a Swiss or Monégasque private bank to accept, hold and manage crypto-origin wealth of USD 1,000,000 or more: Altcoinomy, because the account opening, the video identification and the bank's own review are the mandate, not an add-on
- You are a US person: Mt Pelerin does not accept US persons; contact us to assess eligibility case by case
Neither company advises on tax. Altcoinomy does not provide tax advice, and the choice between a self-custodial set-up and a private bank has tax consequences that a client should check with an adviser in their country of residence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Altcoinomy and Mt Pelerin regulated in Switzerland?
Both are financial intermediaries under the Swiss Anti-Money Laundering Act, each affiliated with a self-regulatory organisation recognised by FINMA: Altcoinomy with the VQF, Mt Pelerin with SO-FIT. Neither is a bank or holds a FINMA banking licence, and each must apply the same identification and source-of-funds duties.
What is the minimum amount for Altcoinomy compared with Mt Pelerin?
Mt Pelerin's exchange starts at CHF 1 to buy and CHF 50 to sell, and its OTC desk starts at CHF 100,000. Altcoinomy handles transactions from USD 25,000 upwards, and private bank account openings from USD 1,000,000, which can be seeded in tranches from USD 25,000.
Which service is cheaper for a large crypto cash-out?
Mt Pelerin publishes its OTC fee: 0.9 % from CHF 100,000, 0.7 % from CHF 1,000,000 and 0.6 % from CHF 10,000,000, on top of the spot price. Altcoinomy quotes each transaction after a free compliance review, with the file and the bank introduction included, so the two can only be compared on a specific case.
Can both services open a Swiss private bank account for me?
Mt Pelerin states that its OTC desk can open an account at one of its Swiss private bank partners for a large cash-out, at no extra cost. For Altcoinomy, the private bank account in Switzerland or Monaco is the core of the mandate, with the bank running its own video identification on top of ours before the funds arrive.
Do I keep custody of my crypto with Altcoinomy or Mt Pelerin?
With Mt Pelerin, yes: its Bridge Wallet is self-custodial and the company states it never holds client keys. With Altcoinomy, the crypto is converted and the fiat is deposited at a partner private bank, and some of those banks offer crypto custody for the part of the position a client prefers to keep in digital form.
Not sure which route your file belongs on?
A Confidential Compliance Review looks at your wallets and your history before any identity document changes hands. If a Swiss or Monégasque private bank is the right destination, we build the file as a VQF-supervised intermediary and introduce it to the partner bank that fits your profile.
